The BS Business bachelor-completion degree in Santa Barbara, offered through CI’s Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics, has a liberal arts and interdisciplinary focus built on the three Cs: critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Students learn the fundamental principles of accounting, economics, finance, information systems, management, and marketing as applied in a variety of organizational settings. A distinguishing aspect of the program is the requirement to take courses developed in conjunction with disciplines outside the traditional business curriculum such as biology, chemistry, education, English, fine arts, history, and performing arts. A capstone course provides students with the opportunity to integrate their knowledge through a global strategy simulation exercise.
Students must complete the California State University transfer requirements and program prerequisites at the community college; all transfer requirements must be completed prior to admission to the BS degree completion program. The program offers an accelerated schedule and guaranteed course registration whereby students can obtain a BS Business from CI in two years. The program has been shown to improve student retention and student satisfaction. Classes for all programs meet on evenings and weekends year-round to meet the needs of working adults living and working in the area. CI instructors teach all classes. Student advising is held on the SBCC campus and conducted by CI staff, as well as, at the CI Santa Barbara/Goleta campus.
BS Business is primarily for transferring juniors, however, it also available as a second baccalaureate degree. A second baccalaureate applicant is a college graduate who wishes to obtain a second bachelor's degree in a major different from that of the first degree.
