Bachelor of Science Business
|
CSU Channel Islands (CI) offers a Bachelor of Science Business degree program in partnership with Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) on the SBCC campus. The BS Business degree, offered through CI’s Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics, has a liberal arts and interdisciplinary focus built on the three Cs: critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Students learn the fundamental principles of accounting, economics, finance, information systems, management, and marketing as applied in a variety of organizational settings. A distinguishing aspect of the program is the requirement to take courses developed in conjunction with disciplines outside the traditional business curriculum such as biology, chemistry, education, English, fine arts, history, and performing arts. A capstone course provides students with the opportunity to integrate their knowledge through a global strategy simulation exercise. |
Students must complete the California State University transfer requirements and program prerequisites at the community college; all transfer requirements must be completed prior to admission in the BS degree completion program. The program offers an accelerated schedule and guaranteed course registration whereby students can obtain a BS Business from CI in two years. The program has been shown to improve student retention and student satisfaction. Classes for all programs meet on evenings and/or weekends year-round in 11 or 12-week sessions on the SBCC campus. CI instructors teach all classes. Student advising is held on the SBCC campus and conducted by CI staff.
