Shortly after resuming from our Veteran’s Day weekend, the Veteran’s Resource Center held a Care Package Event and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute members were quick to come lend a hand. Veteran’s Day honors the men and women who have served or are currently serving in the military. In our best efforts to show appreciation for troops overseas, both Osher Lifelong Learning Institute members and the Veteran’s Resource Center gathered up items such as  toiletries, reading materials and games to put in boxes. Our Osher lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) members of ages 50 and above are continuing their education by taking university level classes here on campus, at the Ventura Adult & Continuing Education, Studio Channel Islands, Little House in Ojai, California Museum of Art Thousand Oaks, Leisure Village and Agoura Hills Recreation Center.

Alongside OLLI members, the Veterans Resource Center was able to put together 34 boxes and 50 letters to send overseas for military personnel. We truly appreciate our OLLI members who took time to help make the event a success. The Care Package event hit close to home for our OLLI members since some are Veterans themselves. We’d like to take a second to honor those OLLI members who are veterans and spouses of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines and the Coast Guard.

One of our OLLI Instructors and OLLI student, Jerry Clifford, is a veteran of the Air force. While in the Air Force Jerry Clifford was an officer. Now, you can find Jerry teaching one of our many OLLI courses such as Art and Visual Perception at Broome Library.

You can find Jerry Clifford teaching another course this coming spring but he isn’t the only one. As spring is fast approaching, we remind you to be on the lookout for the Spring Catalog for upcoming OLLI classes. Please visit the OLLI website for more information.
