BUS 572: Graduate International Experience in Business

This course is intended for MBA students who have progressed through the core of the program. Travel, in itself, is enormously rewarding and educational, but within the context of an academic program of study, an international experience adds a dimension of understanding that is extremely difficult to achieve in the classroom.
In an increasingly global economy, successful business practices require an awareness of cultural and structural differences that may render ineffective the standard domestic modus operandi. At the same time, savvy business practitioners are open to the strategies and tactics of foreign operations that might be successfully implemented in a domestic context.
Ideally, you will leave this course with an integrated view of key business concepts as applied to an international setting, as well as respect and appreciation for the culture of the host country.
This class includes three essential components:
- Preparatory Meetings: Logistics of travel arrangements, basic cultural information, discussion of assigned reading material. To be announced.
- Intensive International Experience: Ten days visiting business, academic and cultural sites. (Extended University staff located in Sage Hall will help students who have classes on the week of the traveling dates to make arrangements to go to the trip without affecting their coursework.)
- Oral Presentations: Professional presentations that demonstrate your integration of theory and research with the detailed observations and analyses from your travel journals. Date to be determined after students return to the United States.
