After almost two years of offering only virtual classes, CSUCI’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) is now holding in person and simultaneously live-streamed courses for its Fall II session.

OLLI will be using state-of-the-art streaming technology that improves the experience for those watching classes virtually.

“The technology is called ‘Hy-Flex’, and it’s really cool.” said Jeff Ziskin, EU Marketing & Program Coordinator. “The camera is motion sensored and follows the speaker around and is capable of zooming in and out.”

OLLI members can choose to attend in person or join online. Classes are also recorded and can be played back at a student’s convenience.

“We are excited to welcome our members back to in-person classes with Hy-Flex courses while continuing to host our robust online program with Zoom,” said OLLI Program Coordinator Michael Trainor.

Aimed at adults 50 and over, OLLI offers intellectually stimulating four-to-eight week college-level courses on a variety of topics without the burden of homework, tests or grades.

“I'm grateful that this fine program exists so that we older students can study, reflect on, and discuss a great variety of subjects, while also appreciating OLLI's social and enrichment experiences outside the classroom,” said OLLI member Donna Swift.

“The courses I teach at OLLI have been some of the most exciting experiences I've had on a college campus,” said OLLI instructor David Parsons. “The program encourages an intellectual adventurousness that pushes teachers and students to engage with the material for the pure joy and satisfaction of learning together, a rare experience and one that surprises me again and again. OLLI courses create a sense of community among students and teachers, one that lasts long after the semester ends.”

The Fall II session offers ten thought-provoking, four-week classes exploring the Holocaust, the Blues in American Music, American Culture and World War 11, and much more.

Registration for the Fall II session begins Nov. 1. Classes run Nov. 15 – Dec. 17.
