COURSES:  CLS 500 (7.5 units) and CLS 501 (7.5 units)

TOTAL:  15 units plus completion of all laboratory rotation hours

PREREQUISITES:
The CLS internship program is a Limited Entry Program;  all prerequisite academic requirements (degree completion and all coursework) must be completed by the end of the spring term prior to the program fall start date.

Bachelor of Science in CLS, or a Bachelor of Science in a related science that contains the following course work:

  • 16 semester units of chemistry that must include clinical chemistry OR analytical chemistry (quantitative analysis) AND biochemistry.
  • 18 semester units of biological sciences that must include classes in hematology, immunology, and medical microbiology
  • Three semester units of physics that must include instruction in the principles of light and electricity.
  • Recommended: at least four of the following courses: human physiology, genetics, biostatistics, parasitology, virology, developmental biology and a lab class that includes molecular biology techniques.

A minimum science GPA of 2.75 and no grades less than a C in any required course is expected.

CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS:

To earn the Certificate in Clinical Laboratory Sciences and receive necessary documentation to apply for certification testing and licensure, students are required to complete CLS 500, CLS 501, AND 52 weeks of clinical training and pass all clinical evaluations as administered by the laboratory training staff.

    Forty hours of field studies per week
    Prerequisites: BS in Biology with an Emphasis in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent educational credential.The first phase of clinical training in a clinical laboratory at a partner hospital.
    Graded: Credit / No Credit

  • Units: 7.5

    40 hours field studies per week
    Prerequisites: BA in Biology with an Emphasis in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent educational credential.The second phase of clinical training in a clinical laboratory at a partner hospital.
    Graded: Credit / No Credit
