Which certification exam will we be taking and is it only valid in California or nationwide?
Students can take the AMT exam or ASCP exam for California only.  After 5 years of employment as a CLS in CA they will be eligible to take the ASCP national test.

Will my specific courses I’ve taken (i.e. hematology, biochemistry, etc) count towards the requirements? (The student provides the specific course in question as an example).
They will be reviewed on a case-by-case situation.

Will the courses I took at (XYZ) school count? Are there any universities that WON’T be acceptable?
Only regionally accredited institutions are allowed.

Will not being CLS accredited prevent me from being eligible for certification?
Because we don’t have NAACLS accreditation, upon completing the internship students take the CA-only exams and if they pass they are eligible for licensure and employment in CA.  After 5 years of employment in CA they can take the national exam.

Will my international degree qualify me for this program?
CA Dept Public Health Laboratory Field Services evaluates international transcripts for eligibility for the trainee license, not CSUCI, and each degree is different. International students should probably have the trainee license in hand before applying to the internship program.

How is the CLS GPA requirement of 2.75 in science classes calculated?
The CSU has a standard GPA calculator.  For science GPA just enter all of your science courses. https://www.calstate.edu/apply/gpa-calculator

Do the pre-requisite classes pass/no-pass count towards the program?
No, you must have a letter grade.

Where do I submit letters of recommendations?
Letters of recommendations are not accepted by the university as part of the application process. However, if you are selected for an interview by the hospital, you may bring letters of recommendation with you to the interview.

Can I set up an appointment with the Program Director for advising or to go over my transcripts?
Not as part of the admissions process. However, you can email Jeff Ziskin for assistance.

Can I contact the hospitals directly?
No. Please do not contact the hospitals.  You will be contacted if you are selected as a candidate.

When will I be notified that I have been accepted for an interview?
Clinical interviews generally occur from mid-May to mid-June, although the hospitals vary in the specifics and timing of their interview schedules.

When will I be notified that I have not been accepted?
The matching process will be concluded by the end of June and all applicants will be notified of their status shortly thereafter.

Why have I not been notified of anything yet?
The hospitals are still reviewing applicants.

Is there anything I can do/provide in the application to make myself standout?
The statement of purpose is the one area where you can make yourself shine.  Applicants with clinical or non-course-related laboratory experience have an advantage.

Is there a spring cohort?
