To apply, just follow these four easy steps:

    Learn about the MA English program at CSU Channel Islands and your eligibility.

  • Step 2

    Apply to CSU Channel Islands through Cal State Apply.

  • Step 3

    Submit documents and test scores. For specifics, please see below.

  • Step 4

    Submit Intent to Enroll and deposit.

You will be notified of your admissions status by email. If you are accepted, you will receive a custom link to submit the $250 non-refundable payment. The payment will be applied to your first semester tuition.

Application Periods

We accept students twice a year, during the fall and spring semesters.

  • Fall 2026: Late spring - July 1st
  • Spring 2027: August 1 - November 1

Admission Requirements

  • Admissions application at CalState Apply online & $70.00 application fee
  • Applicants with a conferred bachelor’s degree in any field
  • High School English teachers do not need any prerequisites
  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • The committee reviews all documentsfor admissions

Required Documentation

The following documentation is required:

  • Two Short Essays (500 words each)
  • Current Resume
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • One set of official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended

      • Two Short Written essays:
        Maximum words: 500 words per essay, 12 font size, Times New Roman, double-spaced.

          • Essay #1: Describe how you would teach first-year/dual-enrollment writers in ways that expand access and success for students who have not traditionally had easy entry to higher education. Ground your response in (a) an asset-based view of students, (b) concrete course-design choices and (c) equitable grading and feedback practices that support a growth mindset. Include one brief example of an assignment or module you would redesign—state its purpose, the steps, and how you will tell students they’re on track.
          • Essay #2: Describe your plan for committing to and succeeding in an online master’s degree program delivered in eight-week course blocks while negotiating responsibilities outside of the program. Address time management, technology/Learning Management system access, and how you will sustain reading, writing, research, and engagement workflows. Briefly note the supports you will use and how you will pace your progress towards completing both low stakes and high stakes deliverables

How to Turn In Transcripts

Electronic

Electronic transcripts are preferred. You can request official electronic transcripts from your community college/university directly. If your school's transcript ordering system asks for a recipient name and email, please indicate CSU Channel Islands and ext@csuci.edu. We will not accept transcripts emailed to our Admissions office from the student.
